Merga began studying economics, which he interrupted to devote himself entirely to art afterwards. He studied at the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University and received his BFA degree in Visual Communication (Graphic Arts Department) in 2013. Since graduation, he has had group and solo exhibitions in several galleries such as The National Museum of Ethiopia, The National Theatre Gallery, Guramayne Art Center, Alliance Ethio-française and Sheraton Art of Ethiopia.
His first step as a child into the art world was to scribble in the classroom, copying portraits found in books. His parents, especially his mother, were the first to see his work, support him and give him their blessings despite their worries about the difficult conditions in the art world. They encouraged the young artist to pursue his desire to draw. Above all, he appreciates the maternal love and encouragement that supported his choice of life as an artist and considers himself very lucky for.
